Pride Month - June

 

We celebrated Pride Month in the library by proudly displaying all our LGBTQ+ titles - unfortunately our apparently now annual Heartstopper party had to be postponed due to the new carpet being fitted in the Library but here's a trailer for the second series to cheer you up! 

Empathy Day, 8th June 2023

 Today is Empathy Day. What is empathy?

Empathy is our ability to understand and experience someone else’s feelings. It builds stronger, kinder communities. It’s a crucial life skill that young people need in order to learn, thrive and contribute. We’re not born with a fixed quantity of empathy – it’s a skill we can all learn. Excitingly, research shows that books are a powerful tool to develop it. When young people identify with book characters, they learn to see things from others’ points of view. Armadale Academy - Reading School

We are very proud of our Silver Reading School award and greatly enjoyed our visit from the Scottish Book Trust today. We can't wait to see the fantastic photos taken by Ali of our pupil librarian assistants (those who weren't on the French lunch!)

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and what better time to highlight our Shelf Help/ Reading Well section? You can find this beside the Reference section in the library.

May the fourth be with you…the library was transformed into Skywalker Academy today and we celebrated all things Star Wars at lunchtime. 

and our padawans enjoyed a visit from Jedi knights...

Earth Day

This week's display in the library will be marking Earth Day (22 April) and features books about climate change and its effect on the environment - and some great cli-fi.

Cheerio

Very sad to be saying cheerio to our wonderful S6 pupil library assistants - you'll be very missed in the library! Best of luck for the future.
